Coconut milk is a important
ingredient in many dishes especially in South India. I am putting this homemade
basic post for those who need a quick and easy tips.
Ingredients:
Grated Coconut
|
2 cups
|
Lukewarm water
|
As required
|
Procedure:
1. Take the grated coconut in a mixe jar. Add 1 cup of lukewarm
water and grind till the coconut is grounded into a fine paste.
2. Pour the coconut paste on a fine strainer or cloth.
Press with a spoon or fingers on the paste, so that the coconut milk is
strained from the coconut paste. This is the thick and first extract coconut
milk (muthal paal).
3. Now add the
extracted coconut shreds again in the blender. Add 1 cup of lukewarm water and
blend for 2-3 mins. Then strain the coconut milk like the first extract but in
another bowl. This is thin and second extract milk (irandam paal).
Use coconut milk for kuzhambu, Curries, kuruma etc., add sugar
with coconut milk and use this for aappam, idiaappam etc..
Note:
Use either fresh coconut or frozen coconut.
