Sugar Candy / Kalkandu Pongal

     If you want to try a different sweet pongal on a special occasion, kalakndu pongal is a very good choice. The main difference between the traditional pongal and kalkandu pongal is the color- kalkandu pongal will look more whitish.

     Kids will like the different taste of kalkandu pongal.


Ingredients:
Raw Rice
1 cup
Split green gram / Moong dal /
Paasiparuppu
¼ cup
Sweet Candy / Kalkandu
3/4 cup
Cardamom Powder
1 tesp
Ghee
2 tbsp
Cashew Nuts
10
Dry Grapes
10

Procedure:
1. Dry-roast the moong dal and allow it to cool down.
2. Powder the sugar candy/ kalkandu using the mixie and keep it aside.
3. Wash and soak the rice for minimum 15 mins.
4. Then, mix the soaked rice and dal. Add 4 cups of water and pressure cook for 5 whistles in medium flame.
5. After the pressure has gone, add the powdered sugar candy and cardamom powder. Mix them well and heat it in a  medium flame for 3-5 mins.
6. Meanwhile, heat the ghee and fry the nuts and dry grapes. Mix this with rice and serve it hot.
