Thuvaram Paruppu Adai Recipe / Thur Dal Dosai | Easy Breakfast Ideas



Thuvaram paruppu adai is a interesting variant in my Adai recipe collection. This recipe was suggested by my friend Jesintha. The speciality of this recipe is the addition of carrots to spice it up.

Recipe Cuisine : South Indian| Recipe Category: Breakfast 
Preparation and Soaking Time: 2 hrs mins | Cooking Time: 10 mins | Serves : 3

Ingredients:
Raw Rice
1 cup
Parboiled Idli Rice
1 cup
Thur Dal
½ cup
Urad Dal
¼ cup
Red Chillies
2-3
Aniseeds / Sombu
1 tsp
Salt
As required
Oil
For making dosas
Grated Carrot
1 cup
Finely Chopped Onion
1 cup
Finely Chopped Coriander Leaves
¼ cup

Procedure:
1. Wash and soak the raw rice and parboiled rice together with enough water for 3-4 hrs.
2. Wash and soak thur dal and urad dal together for 3 hrs.
3. Soak the red chillies with littler water for an hour.
4. Grind the soaked rice with soaked chillies with little water into fine paste. (for grinding use rice soaked water and chillies soaked water)
5. Grind the soaked dal with little water, aniseeds and salt into little bit coarse paste.
6. Mix both batter with your hands and leave it for an hour.
7. Before making adai, add chopped onion, chopped carrot and chopped coriander leaves. Mix them well. Adai batter is ready.
8. Heat the dosa tawa, pour ladle full of batter and spread them into a thin circles.
9. Pour oil around the adai and cook till the both sides become golden in color and crisp.
      Yummy and tasty Thur dal Carrot Adai is ready. Serve with coconut chutney or mint chutney or Jaggery.

Note:
1. For soft and crispy adai, you can keep the batter in the refrigerator for 5-6 hours and them make adai.

Batido de Papaya ( Colombian Papaya Smoothie)



Papaya smoothie is a very healthy summer drink. Unfortunately it is not tasty enough for some people especially kids of all ages. Colombians have made a solution for this. They add vanilla essence to dilute the flavor of papaya. A definite try out for you this hot summer season.

Recipe Cuisine : International / Colombia| Recipe Category: Smoothie
Preparation Time: 10 mins | Serves : 1

Ingredients:
Papaya pieces
1/2 cup
Boiled cold milk
1 cup
Sugar
3-4 tbsp
Vanilla essence
½ tsp
Cardamom Powder
A pinch
Ice Cubes
1 cup

1. Peel the skin of the papaya and remove the seeds from it. Then cut it into small cubes. Now take ½ cup of papaya cubes for this recipe.
2. Grind papaya, sugar and ice cubes into fine paste.
3. Then add milk, essence and cardamom powder. Grind them well and strain using the juice strainer. 
     Yummy papaya milkshake is ready.

Note:
1. Add milk only when you are about to serve, otherwise it will become after short period of time.

Vazhaipoo Kuzhambu Recipe/ Banana Flower Kuzhambu | Vazhaipoo Recipes



One more banana flower recipe following the other banana flower recipes I have shortly before. People will not be able to feel the bitterness of the banana flower and will only feel the kara kuzhambu taste. This recipe is a tip from my friend and neighbor Ramya in my native place.

Ingredients:
Banana Flower Florets
20
Tamarind
Gooseberry size
Tomato Puree
2 tbsp
Turmeric Powder
½ tsp
1 tsp
1 tbsp
Salt
As Required
Thick coconut Milk
½ cup
Oil
1 tbsp
To Temper:

Oil
2 tsp
Mustard Seeds
½ tsp
Curry Leaves
1 spring
Small Onion
10
Garlic Pods

Procedure:
1. Add tamarind in ½ cup of warm water for 15 mins. Then extract the juice from it. Keep it aside.
2. Extract the coconut milk from the ½ cup of the grated coconut. Keep it aside.
3. Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan, add cleaned banana flower florets. Fry them well till they turn into brown in color. Switch off the flame. Transfer the florets into plate and keep it aside.
4. Heat 2 tsp of oil in a same pan, add mustard seeds and wait for popping.
5. Add curry leaves and sauté for few seconds.
6. Add chopped onion and garlic. Sauté till they become translucent.
7. Add tomato puree and sauté till the raw smell goes off.
8. Add tamarind juice (from 1), fried florets (from 3), red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt. Mix them well. Close the lid of the pan and cook till the raw smell of the tamarind goes off and the gravy becomes thick.
9. Now add the coconut milk (from 2) and mix them well. Cook for 2-3 mins.

      Yummy and tasty Banana Flower kuzhambu / Vazhaipoo Kuzhambu is ready!
Note:
1. Adjust the red chilli level according to your taste.
2. Add ½ big onions instead of small onion.

Andhra Style Raw Mango Rice Recipe / Mamidikaya Pulihora Recipe



I have already posted a Mango Rice Recipe which is very much like lemon rice. This is very famous recipe in Andhra; they add a few spice powders to spice it up.
I learnt this recipe from one cook book.

Recipe Cuisine : South Indian / Andhra| Recipe Category: Variety Rice
Preparation Time: 10 mins |Cooking Time: 15 minw | Serves: 2

Ingredients:
Cooked Rice
2 cups
Grated Raw Mango
1 cup
Turmeric Powder
½ tsp
Salt
As required
To Temper:

Oil
2 tbsp
Mustard Seeds
½ tsp
Curry Leaves
1 spring
Green Chilli
1
Grated Ginger
2 tsp
Asafoetida / Hing
½ tsp
To Dry roast and powder:

Chana Dal / Kadalai Paruppu
2 tsp
Urad Dal
1 tsp
Coriander Seeds
2 tbsp
Red Chillies
2

Procedure:
1. Dry roast the chana dal, urad dal, red chillies and coriander seeds till thee nice aroma comes out from it.
2. Allow it to cool down and grind them into a fine powder using the dry mixie jar.
3. Peel the skin of the mango and cut it into two halves vertically. Then remove the seed from it.
4. Grate the mango using the grater. Keep it aside.
5.  Heat the oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and wait for popping.
6. Add curry leaves and chopped green chillies. Sauté for few mins.
7. Add grated ginger and fry for few seconds.
8. Add hing and mxi them well.
9. Add turmeric powder and grated mango. Mix them well and sauté for 2 seconds or raw smell of the mango goes off.
10. Add cooked rice, salt and ground powder (from 2). Mix them well and close the lid of the pan. Cook for 2-3 mins.

            Delicious and yummy Andhra Style Raw Mango Rice is ready!. Serve with Fryums.

Note:
1. Adjust the chilli level according to your spice level.
