Agal Vilakku Painting

Materials Required:
1. Raw Lamp / Agal Vilakku
2. Brush - 1
3. Paint - Red, Green and Yellow colors
4. Salt paper
5. Thinner or Kerosene

First take a raw lamp (agal vilakku).

Rub the surfaces with salt paper to achieve smoothness.

This is the lamp with smoothened surface.Wipe it clean.

Coat the interiors of the lamp with the favorite colours. Keep it aside for half an hour, so that the paint dries down.

Flip the lamp and paint the rear surface of the lamp. Keep it aside again for half an hour for drying.

This is the completely painted lamp.

Now decorate the lamp with contrasting colours.

This is completely decorated lamp.

These photos includes lamps i have painted earlier with different colours.

Tips :
1.Wash the paint-brush immediately after completing the painting with thinner. Otherwise the brush hairs would become straingtened (stif).

2. When you select a color while painting try to paint all the lamps you want to paint that color. This is to avoid the paint getting thick due to frequent opening and closing of the lids.

Sending these over to Shruti for the Artsy Craftsy Diwali craft event..
